Magic & Monsters in Mythic Japan
Expert Kanabo Supplement III and DOOMCRAWL #9: Mullein now available
Digital goodies released!
The first big news is that Expert Kanabo: Supplement III (Magic) is now available via DTRPG and itch.io. This concludes the Expert Kanabo rules book, which will soon be available as a three-zine trio or a POD omnibus. Based on Christina Stone-Bush's Brighthammer, John Geary's Sledgehammer, and Sean McCoy's Mothership, the Magic supplement adds:
Spell Casting rules
108 new spells to cast
Expanded treasure tables
95 new magic weapons, armor, rings, potions, and other artifacts
19 new magical creatures to encounter
And if you’ve already bought the Kanabo: Expert ruleset, you’ll want to download it again: the finished Supplement III is available for free to anyone who’s already purchased Supplement I & II.
We’ve also resurrected DOOMCRAWL #9, which I started writing months ago in anticipation of Supplement III but couldn’t get around to finishing. With Supplement III done, Mullein was a breeze to finish, and here it is now:
Greater mullein (Verbascum thapsus) grows upon the slopes of mountains.
Where lightning strikes the stalks catch flame. It is as if a great torchbearing host marches through the valleys.
The kingdoms of yesteryere are carrion, picked apart by rapacious clans like the beaks of crows. Most lords can survey their entire domain by eye, on a clear day. Most of the smallfolk know naught to which lord they pay their taxes - if taxes are remembered to be collected at all.
Mullein is #9 in a series of short hex- and dungeon-crawls for the Kanabo Expert system, but are easily adaptable to the OSR system of your choice. Each DOOMCRAWL is inspired by the iconic Special Herbs beat tracks by MF DOOM.
What's in this edition?
120 hexes to explore inspired by mythic Japan
Treasures, spells, factions, NPCs, monsters, horror and wonders
d100 tables of Rumors and Encounters
46 pages of Adventure!
in loving memory of Daniel Dumile AKA MF DOOM.
Mullein is also available via DTRPG or itch.io. An omnibus print edition of the first 12 DOOMCRAWLS will be available in the future (once the other 3 are similarly finished!)
